Lynbrook Woman Riding in Belmont Stakes

Rosie Napravnik is just the second woman to ride in the race.

A Lynbrook resident will be riding in the Belmont Stakes this Saturday atop a 3-year-old gelding.

The kicker? That Lynbrook resident is a woman.

Rosie Napravnik will become just the second woman to ride in the Belmont Stakes when she attempts to upset the favorite I'll Have Another, who is fresh off wins at the Preakness and Kentucky, and looking for the first Triple Crown since 1978.

According to Newsday, Napravnik, who lives in Lynbrook with her husband, Joe Sharp, an assistant horse trainer for Michael Maker, will be on a bay named Five Sixteen.

The original choice to ride Five Sixteen was jockey Mark Valeski, according to NJ.com. However, Valeski was removed from consideration by trainer Larry Jones earlier this week after a what NJ.com described as a "lackluster workout."

Napravnik, who won the last two riding titles at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans, is riding at Belmont Park this spring and is second in a deep jockey colony with 15 winners in 84 starts entering Wednesday's card.

Five Sixteen has one win in six career starts.
