Malverne Celebrates the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
District unites with families and faculty to commemorate Martin Luther King Day.
Following a longstanding tradition, students from all five Malverne Schools invited their families to join them as they brought Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s message of peace and equality to life in a community celebration of song and dance.
With a Star-Spangled kickoff by Carly Bottitta, Aimee Jednyak, Camryn Lynken and Samantha Murphy, each school’s contingent took to the stage to perform special musical numbers. In between sets, an interlude slideshow highlighting the history of the Equal Rights Movement played in the background.
Every year since 1987, the district’s MLK committee has honored members of the community who have impacted the lives of students and exemplified the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year’s honorees were community leader and parent Phyllis Tinsley and an educator for more than 25 years Rose Linda Ricca.
