Man Armed With Pitchfork Was Jumping On Woman's Car: Police

Police say the man demanded she call 911, and then tried to pull her out of her car.

An Elmont man was arrested Thursday evening after police say they found him jumping on the hood of a woman's car while armed with a pitchfork.

According to police, officers received a call for a suspicious man carrying a pitchfork at the Belmont Racetrack at 6:50 p.m. Thursday night. Police say the man -- Rigoberto Herrera Luna, 33, of Elmont -- had jumped onto the hood of a car belonging to a 27-year-old woman while holding the pitchfork and demanded she call the police. He then tried to pull her from the car, police said.

When the officers arrived, they found Luna and placed him under arrest. Police say the officers found cocaine on him. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Luna is charged with second-degree attempted robbery, second-degree menacing, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, fourth-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest and third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Friday.
