Police: Man Who Killed Estranged Wife's New Boyfriend Arrested

The shooting occurred Friday morning in Valley Stream.

UPDATE Sunday 9 a.m.: Ewers was arrested in Oceanside on Saturday police said. He is charged with second degree murder and will be arraigned Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead.

The man who was killed was reportedly the new boyfriend of Ewers’s estranged wife. Ewers flew from California to Long Island on Thursday night, police said. 

UPDATE Friday 2 p.m.: Police have identified the suspect in the shooting as 50-year-old Deon Ewers, of Los Angeles, California. Police released a photo of Ewers on Friday afternoon. He is described as black, 6-foot-1 and around 190 pounds.

Police are searching for a person who gunned down a 34-year-old man in Valley Stream Friday morning.

According to police, Fifth Precinct officers responded to a call for a man shot at 26 East Hawthorne Avenue at about 6:53 a.m. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The man was transported to South Nassau Communities Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:04 a.m.

The shooter fled scene in an unknown direction.

The Homicide Squad is investigating the shooting and anyone with information should contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.

It’s the second fatal shooting on Long Island in as many days. A man was shot and killed in North Bellport early Thursday morning.
