Our community is still recovering from the impact of the storm!
Legislator Carrié Solages (D-Elmont) remembers the challenges and devastation Superstorm Sandy created for his community, the county and the region, and today pledges to remain steadfast in his support for storm victims using all the resources available to his office.
Legislator Solages echoes the sentiments of Elmont resident Magaly Polo, program coordinator for Project Hope and a Red Cross volunteer, who stated: “Today is a day to reflect back on the trauma of Hurricane Sandy and it is also a day to reflect on the solidarity that resulted in the community from the tragic experience.”
Polo continued that “everyone in the community was touched by Hurricane Sandy directly or indirectly and it is important to not lose touch with the incident and we must remember that there are still families that are trying to recover.”

The lawmaker agrees there is more work to be done to help those families who remain impacted by the storm, and continues to emphasize that our community is still in the recovery phase and several areas are still in disrepair one year later.
“We are humbled by the effort and commitment demonstrated by our partners and supporters as we continue the rebuilding process,” said Solages.
