Rams Lax Overrun By Owls, End Season With Win
West Hempstead's varsity boys lacrosse team fell to a tough Lynbrook squad, but then wrapped up the season on a high note.
The West Hempstead Rams lacrosse team suffered a brutal 16-2 beating at the hands of the Lynbrook Owls Friday, but finished the season this week on a high note.
The boys varsity coach Dominick Carre knew the Lynbrook offense was going to be tough to deal with.
"They are a skilled team and work very well together moving the ball," said Carre, who coaches the varsity boys. "We knew we would have to be great defensively to stay in the game with them."

"Our depth really helped us in this game," said Lynbrook coach Bill Leighley. "We have a lot more guys playing for us than they do so we were able to rotate our players more frequently throughout the game."
Lynbrook dominated right from the start, as the Owls spent much of the game on the offensive side of the field, harassing West Hempstead goalie Nick Locurcio.
They scored four goals in the first quarter and five in the second to take a commanding 9-1 halftime lead.
The Rams lone first half goal came off the stick of senior Joe Visone early in the first quarter.
The second half was more of the same story as the Owls scored five additional goals in the third and two in the fourth en route to a 16-2 victory.
Danny Sheeler recorded the second goal of the game for West Hempstead midway through the third quarter.
The West Hempstead Rams didn't let the loss effect their performance on Monday, as they played their final game against Great Neck North.
The match started out tight, with both teams tied at one goal a piece, but the Rams pulled ahead in the second quarter, scoring four goals.
They continued their consistent play throughout the game to take home the 8-3 victory.
Danny Sheeler had five goals for West Hempstead, and goalie Nick Locurcio had 12 saves and even shut out the Blazers in the second quarter.
The Rams finished the season 5-9.
