Season Preview: Lynbrook Boys Lacrosse
New-look Owls play Farmingdale, last year's county champs.
Having graduated most of the players that helped lead them to the playoffs the past two years, the Lynbrook varsity boys lacrosse team will have a challenging season ahead of them.
"We're kind of in a rebuilding year," said coach Bill Leighley. "We got good guys, I just don't know good of lacrosse players they are."
Lynbrook made the county finals two years ago, and the semifinals last year.
Leighley said heading into its non-league games last week — a 14-8 loss to Oceanside and 12-10 win over Baldwin — he expected that the team's strength would be its defense. But the team actually appeared stronger on offense, he said. Thus far, the team seems to be most talented in its transition game, Leighley said.
"Our goal is just to continue to get better every single day," Leighley added. "We want to try to make some noise in the playoffs. Our mentality is, if you're gonna win the whole thing, you gotta beat everybody, anyway."
In today's non-league game, the new-look Owls will take on the Farmingdale Dalers, last year's Nassau County champions. But the Owls will take some confidence into the match-up, knowing they were the only Nassau County team to beat Farmingdale last season.
"I think [Farmingdale] is going to come with a revenge factor," Leighley predicted.
Today's game begins at 4:30 p.m. at .
