South Shore to Turn Red Friday to Protest Common Core
Protest will likely draw hundreds of protesters to locations on Merrick Road and Montauk Highway.

Opponents of Common Core testing will line the length of Long Island Friday afternoon in protest.
The peaceful protest is set for 4:30 p.m. Friday and is inviting community members from all over Long Island to wear red and protest state testing.
Nearly 7,000 were invited to protest, according to the event’s Facebook page. More than 500 have committed to protesting and more are expected.

The aim of the protest is to stand up against “Gov. Cuomo’s attack on our communities, our schools and our teachers,” according to the event.
“We will be quietly walking on the sidewalks on Merrick Rd./Montauk Hwy. to bring attention to the state’s intentions to privatize our most precious asset, our schools,” officials wrote.
