W.Hempstead Recognizes Lady Rams' Success
West Hempstead High School honored its female student athletes Tuesday night.
West Hempstead High School honored its Lady Rams Tuesday night during an awards ceremony focusing on individual and team achievements.
All of the girls sports teams were recognized by their various coaches as they enjoyed a dinner at restaurant in West Hempstead on June 7.
Awards were given out to teams for Most Valuable Players, Most Improved Players and All-Conference and All-County winners.

Two teams - varsity basketball and varsity soccer, the conference 6 champions, were congratulated for making it to the conference playoffs this year, and five teams received scholar-athlete awards for all its players. There were nine students who made the All-Conference list and two for All-County - Anjolie Clark (volleyball) and Chandra Fogg (spring track.)
Angolie kicked off the ceremony with some welcoming remarks.

She said that the coaches were instrumental in the athletes' lives, instilling in them values such as teamwork and sportsmanship.
"If it wasn't for the coaches we wouldn't be able to function as a team," said Clark. "They teach us so much about things like team sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork."
Junior basketball and softball player Amanda Gabayan gave a farewell to the senior team members.
"We had a lot of memorable moments this season that will never be forgotten," said Gabayan. "I wish you congratulations on your upcoming graduation and good luck into the future."
Notable seniors who were awarded included Katie Lynch (basketball, lacrosse, volleyball), Ashley Merrill (lacrosse), Sarah Njoku (basketball) and Santina Nikolaidas (softball.)
Most Valuable Player awards went to junior Noreen White in softball, Ashley Merrill in lacrosse, Hannah Goldman in tennis, who had a undefeated season, Sarah Njoku in basketball, Elizabeth Henderson in spring track and Christiola Butler in winter track.
Volleyball Captains Katie Lynch and Anjolie Clark shared MVP honors.
The boys will have their turn in the spotlight this Thursday during a similar award ceremony at Pompei, which will start at 7 p.m.
