It told me my friend had left this world.
She had been a dynamic part of my life and while I meant to call and say goodbye, I never did.

I doubt that it would have mattered. She had no time for trivia, and she knew our lives had drifted apart.
We met when we were both part of the original Madonna Heights Ladies Auxiliary. But she never let any of us forget that at heart we were still girls.

We traveled together on our annual junkets, and bought blood oranges in Spain, chocolates in Paris and yes, perfume that became her personal scent.
She was always busy, but never too busy to return a phone call. She redecorated the convent for the aging nuns who soon would be forced to relocate in another state.
She brought gaiety, laughter and excitement into all our activities. She never wore beige, and of course, she was a beautiful blonde.
While she shared her joie de vivre with all of us; she also shared sorrows of her own, the tragic death of a child.
Her compassion and her generosity of spirit was infectious, and I believe the angels will be glad she joined them.
But, oh, we Ladies of Madonna Heights will ever and always miss Barbara Harris.
