Body Of Massapequa Man Never Found After Kayak Overturns

MASSAPEQUA, NY — A kayaker from Massapequa died while on a vacation in Washington state. The victim was identified as 37-year-old Travis Valenti.

On the afternoon of June 9, Valenti and his fiancée were kayaking on Lake Crescent near the Log Cabin Resort.

Valenti's kayak overturned, park police said. His fiancée's kayak also overturned, but she was able to swim to shore. Neither were wearing a life jacket, authorities said.

Park rangers searched an area quarter-mile ashore, roughly 400-500 feet deep, for more than two hours. He was not located. Another search on June 10 also turned up empty.

Lake Crescent is a deep, cold body of water, with surface temperatures near 50 degrees this time of year, the National Park Service said.
