Coffee Grinds and

Patience

My usual nearly perfect cup of coffee was full of grinds this morning, and I found myself fighting off troubling feelings of annoyance.

The usual impenetrable and reliable K Cup had split releasing tiny flecks of coffee beans into the swirling liquid.

While cleaning it up, I wondered if my life, too, had coffee grounds sprinkled into the precious time I have been given. I realized my recent episodes of impatience were as unrealistic as being angry at the usually dependable K Cup.

The unfair annoyance I had at a diner last night when a boisterous party entered the normally quiet room certainly fell into that category. Instead of appreciating the pleasure of the two visiting friends sharing time with me, I focused on my discontent.

My impatience waiting to be served in a new restaurant in town last week indeed distinctly flavored my afternoon., I forgot to savor the distinct taste, appearance and pleasure of the French lemon tart I was served several minutes later.

Yesterday while waiting for a response when my call to customer service was put on hold, I gazed out my window at the lovely park and noticed the beauty of the changing foliage. Then I allowed my irritation at the long wait to overshadow the obvious beauty of the scenic view. . A moment lost in time and over ridden with needless discontent.

This morning before my coffee was cold, the lingering flecks of beans had settled to the bottom of my mug, and within minutes I was able to savor my daily blast of caffeine.

It took far longer than that to clean up the residual from the Keurig coffee pot. While doing that, I wondered how long it would take to eliminate the coffee grinds of discontent from my life that I have been allowing to infiltrate recently.
