Coronavirus In Massapequa: What You Need To Know

MASSAPEQUA, NY — The new coronavirus continues to plague Massapequa, and has lead to a complete disruption in everyday life for many residents.

As of April 16, there were more than 650 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the Massapequa area: 203 in Massapequa, 176 in North Massapequa, 121 in Massapequa Park and 168 in East Massapequa. There were 27,772 confirmed cases in Nassau County and 222,284 in New York as a whole.

NY PAUSE has shut down most of the state. All non-essential businesses are closed, and citizens have been told not to go out of their homes. The order was recently extended until May 15. It's also important to maintain social distancing to stop the spread of the virus, which means staying at least six feet away from other people.

Here's how the coronavirus is affecting life in Massapequa.

Schools

All schools are closed until at least May 15 by order of Gov. Andrew Cuomo. That order will be revisited and could be extended if necessary.

Town Services

Many Town of Oyster Bay buildings are closed to the public, but some have services available online. The town receiver of taxes and the town clerk's office both have services available online.

The town's parks are still open, but residents need to maintain social distancing. However, the use of playgrounds, ball courts and athletic fields is prohibited.

Businesses

All non-essential businesses are closed. But many restaurants are still serving food for delivery and take-out.
