County Encourages Residents South of Sunrise Highway to Seek Alternative Shelter
Residents advised to look for friends and family north of potential flood zone.

Nassau County’s Office of Emergency Management is encouraging residents who live south of Sunrise Highway to seek alternative shelter.
"If you reside South of Sunrise Hwy, you live in a coastal flood zone," reads a statement on the OEM website. "As such, we advise you to immediately contact friends and family that reside north of Sunrise Hwy to seek alternative shelter."
As of Thursday night, there was no mandatory evacuation order and County executive Ed Mangano called the request "a precaution."

But at a press conference, Mangano told residents south of the highway who've already made arrangements to head north to higher ground, "If you have such a plan, now would be the time to enact it."
The county executive also urged people who live outside the potential flood zone to open their home to friends and family on the south shore.
