Police ID Married Couple Fatally Struck By Alleged Drunk Driver
A drunk driver struck the couple while they were trying to cross Merrick Road Saturday night, police say.
UPDATE 4 p.m.: Police have identified the victims as Barbara and Melvyn Glickman, of Melville.
MASSAPEQUA PARK, NY – A 63-year-old Massapequa man was arrested on manslaughter charges after he struck and killed a married couple with his SUV Saturday night.
According to Nassau Police, a man and woman, both 77-years-old, were attempting to cross Merrick Road from the north side to the south side, just east of Park Boulevard in Massapequa Park, when they were struck by an eastbound 2015 Ford Explorer at about 8:10 p.m.

The husband and wife, who police have not named, were transported to an area hospital, where they died from their injuries, police said.
The driver of the SUV, 63-year-old John Hartwig, of Springdale Avenue, was found to have been operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition and he was placed under arrest at the scene, police said.

He is charged with two counts of second degree vehicular manslaughter and two counts of DWI. He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead Sunday.
