Elderly Couple Injured By Drunk Driver: Nassau Police
Police say the couple was trying to cross the road when they were hit by the car.
MASSAPEQUA, NY — An elderly couple was hospitalized after they were hit by a drunk driver in Massapequa Friday evening, police said.
According to police, a 93-year-old man and a 86-year-old woman were crossing Merrick Road at the intersection of East Shore Drive at 6:31 p.m. As they were crossing, police say they were struck by Joanne Dooher, 50, of Suffolk Road, Massapequa.
The couple was rushed to a nearby hospital. The man is in stable condition, and the woman has a broken pelvis.

Dooher remained at the scene. As officers investigated, police say they found Dooher was drunk. She was placed under arrest.
Dooher is charged with two counts of first-degree vehicular assault, second-degree vehicular assault, two counts of driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. She is scheduled to be arraigned later today.
