County Executive Mangano to Explain NIFA & County’s Fiscal Situation

Nassau’s County's financial troubles, which date back at least a decade, are now being taken out of the hands of our elected officials and will be handled by the independent fiscal board, NIFA, Nassau County Interim Finance Authority. NIFA is a state agency run by seven unpaid directors, each appointed by the governor. The takeover will freeze the county’s short-term ability to borrow funds for operating expenses and may include tax increases, and wage freezes for thousands of county employees.
