Or maybe, God just felt we all needed another lesson.

The funeral for our 41st President was memorable. But for more reasons than the pomp and dignity that he truly deserved.
Instead I believe this morning’s ceremony also provided a Christmas message for all who watched or listened or perhaps just read about it on their device.

America’s moving tribute was our final salute to a man who can and will be remembered for many things; his dignity and admirable achievements not only in politics and battle, but as a sterling example of practicing the moral values he always professed.
Christmas is a season of mixed emotions. Despite the Santa Claus images abounding everywhere, there are many divided families. Sadly, we do not all share the Hallmark image of an extended clan sitting around a blazing hearth. Everyone is not quite as blessed as the beautiful family we watched on TV today, and who seemingly know no familial conflict.
Lives, unfortunately, become complicated throughout the years, and often there are no explanations for division or rancor that occurs. However, it would be futile to pretend it doesn’t happen to the best of families..

The precise verbal attack was successful, but almost painful to watch because at the moment it appeared accurate. There were merely two words used to describe the anticipated candidate and apparent heir to a political dynasty that provided the death knell to an expected successful career.
Today, however, the nation learned of a Father’s decision to not only remember the words, “They know not what they do.” but also practice the forgiveness we have all been taught. The victorious political opponent was invited to participate in the family’s final tribute to the man who was,not only America’s 41st President, but a loving Father whose example was honored.
I know the memory I will embrace about GWB, is, “He Forgave.”
