It was a crime that gripped headlines across Long Island — and the country — for months. Now, ABC is airing a special episode of "20/20" looking back at the infamous shooting of Mary Jo Buttafuoco by Amy Fisher.

The shooting occurred in 1992, when the 17-year-old Fisher went to the Buttofuoco's Massapequa home to confront Mary Jo and tell her about the affair she had been having with Joey Buttofuoco. Their confrontation outside the home escalated, and Fisher shot Mary Jo in the face. The shooting left her deaf in one ear and paralyzed on one side of her face.

Now, 27 years later, "20/20" is looking back at the story and how it unfolded with its special, "Growing Up Buttafuoco. It airs tonight at 9 p.m. on ABC.
