A Heat

Wave

Oh, it’s getting so hot.

Yes, yes, I know it’s still snowing, but I’m talking about the heated public arena we are all inhabiting, not the weather.

I wish we could blame the smoke and flames of climate warming for the unending media onslaught against not only President Trump, but now also, the Catholic Church

Politically, most voters of our country are not going to be swayed by a columnist’s tirade against their choice of electorate.

And as a practicing Catholic, I may be disillusioned, but not terribly surprised, by the ongoing revelations.

There were signals along the path I have walked in several parishes, and a smidgen of disbelief even in youth about some of the sanctimonious clergy.

I have no defense for the horrors of any of the revelations, nor will I ever defend the years of silence by the hierarchy. My heart breaks for the countless young victims whose lives were forever tainted.

Please just tell the story. Simply recite the facts. They are grim enough, but spare us the crocodile tears of shock, surprise and horror.

This is 2019. Let’s move to not only an honest recognition of what has occurred, but the ability to make change.

Politically, that’s easy. Vote.

Regarding the Catholic Church, let the laity speak out with enough clarity and vibration, Rome will shake.

It’s up to us now.
