Home Is Where

The Heart Is

It’s been over a year now, and the intermittent questions are becoming more frequent

“Do you finally feel like you are at home now?”

I am reluctant to be negative, but my priority is honesty, and so my reply is inevitably disappointing.

“No, I am comfortable, and content, but at home, no.”

I think the core of my answer is not unique, but I believe applicable to all human beings.

Home will ever and always be a time and place when we were happiest. Many of us have learned it was a segment of life that has quietly passed and will never return.

It is also my belief that the essence of home is never a house, nor the decor, nor the neighborhood, but fleeting moments shared with loved ones..

We will ever remember that unique place only known once in our life.

It was never the house that was treasured, but the rampant emotions that saturated the air during the cherished albeit brief interlude.

Another of the lessons life teaches is that love cannot be purchased nor acquired. Rather it is a precious gift that lasts for only a limited time span.’

Most relationships will endure (although admittedly,a few may not), after the original family structure alters. However, none will ever remain quite the same. When love inhabits our world, we are granted a specific period of time for each chapter..

Unfortunately, we are unable to comprehend that each episode on our journey is a limited time. Then suddenly without warning, there is a defining moment. It occurs when those we love take a different path leading them to distant places, occasionally not even in our universe.

It is only then we become acutely aware something incredible has ended. It is also when we begin to truly realize the only home we will ever miss is the one shared with those we loved.

So even though I may smile and be a bit vague when questioned, I know in my heart that home for me will always be the one I once shared with him and the Fabulous Four.
