Homecoming Parade, Tax Refunds Covered At Village Board Meeting
Charity races and a new local business also discussed.
Homecoming parades, refunds, and creamy frozen confections were among the items of interest discussed at Monday's Massapequa Park village board meeting.
The board approved the application submitted to the village by Massapequa High School to hold it's annual Homecoming parade, a major school spirit-enhancing event, slated to take place in October 2011.
Due to overpayments, the board also authorized the refund of 2011/2012 village taxes in the amount of $23,005.42. A list of the recipients of the refund will be made available.

Permission was also granted for the annual Sleepy Hollow 5K Run to Hagedorn Little Village School, which Altadonna said is an important charity race.
"That's been run year after year, here," he said. "It's been very successful, and you all should come down. We'll post the date [when it becomes available]...it's very heartwarming, it's a good day."

Another matter brought before the board were several requests relating to a new business called Weigh To Go Yogurt, to be located at 4887 Merrick Road. A sign permit and special use permits for outside tables and chairs were approved for the business, which introduces a unique twist to yogurt, according to Mayor Altadonna.
"It's a new concept," he said. "They're going to sell yogurt by weight. It's self-serve, and you can put all your little dressings on it. They're very excited, and we're excited to have them...it's something a little new, and we hope they do well."
One motion on the agenda - permission to solicit from Belief for Relief, a family crisis charity - was put off until the following meeting, at which time the board hopes to know more about the organization.
"We just want to do a little more of a background check," Altadonna said.
The next regular meeting of the Massapequa Park village board is scheduled for Monday, August 22, at 8 p.m.
