Nearly 500 PSEG Long Island customers in the Massapequa area are without power, according to PSEG. Power is expected to be restored to those homes by a little after midnight.

"We are closely monitoring this weather system and our crews are ready to respond safely and as quickly as possible to any service interruptions," John O'Connell, vice president of transmission and distribution, said in a statement. "The gusty winds pose a risk to trees, particularly when the ground is saturated after several days of rain, and falling trees can bring down wires."

As Patch previously reported, a high wind warning was in effect until 7 p.m. Friday for all of Long Island. West winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are likely through the afternoon, the National Weather Service said. The strongest winds were expected on the East End.
