I Don’t Know

But I Wonder

I don’t know but I wonder,

Was life better before we knew so much about other people’s sex lives?

I don’t know, but I wonder,

Was our world sunnier before we heard the news as it happened rather than reading a morning paper,

I don’t know, but I wonder,

Were we happier when we enjoyed our food rather than looking at it with suspicion

I am not certain, but I question if our world wasn’t kinder when we practiced honesty rather than political correctness

I try to remember what it was it like when role models were models of decorum amd behavior instead of celebrities of the day whose accomplishments are virtually nil.

I can’t remember, but I think I may have been more relaxed without my email, instant messages or texts?

I wonder if life wasn’t perhaps just a mite more civilized when we didn’t have dress down days

And I ponder about the accuracy of describing a lifestyle once described as the world’s oldest profession as an adult industry. Will it then be considered a possible career for young people or is the message inaccurate?

I believe, but I’m not certain there once was a world when a phone was an instrument for a pleasant conversation not a device to be constantly activated.

And a few of us might still remember when there wasn’t such a need to be so incredibly cautious in stating our beliefs, but I’m not certain about that.

Occasionally I wonder if we didn’t have so many gurus advising us on how to live life, we handled the time we were given here far better.

Was there really a time when an accurate description wasn’t called “shaming.”

Would the consequences of giving validity to accusations after a multi million dollar payment has been received, have caused legal repercussions decades ago?

In years to come will anyone remember the phrase Innocent Until Proven Guilty?

But I really don’t know, I just wonder sometimes.

And I definitely question whether the flagrant use of obscenities in the public arena enhances communication.

And, of course, I’ll never know nor will you because that time is gone now.
