I Wish It

Wasn't SO

Don’t laugh, but even in our current stage of vintage, my friends, acquaintances and a few family members still need role models. Initially, the diverse trio appeared to fill that role.

Appearing almost spontaneously on the political stages almost like rock stars, they were quite an unusual threesome.

Politically spaced as far apart as humanly possible, still they resembled each other in one aspect, age.

The white (once called gray) thinning locks on two of the three, and the well, it’s difficult to describe the platinum strands on the third, distinguished them from their many younger opponents.,

Many of us might not be totally honest, even with ourselves, in admitting to a sense of yes, pride, but we were secretly impressed that age did not prohibit their candicacy..

However, that was in the beginning, and now quite a few of us are wishing the three had been wiser. Perhaps if they chosen to view the proceedings on TV as others who shared their day and time find ourselves doing, they could have accepted reality.

Because the brutal truth is, age does matter. We can all pretend we are as adroit as we were yesterday. We can go to the gym, eat properly, fill our calendars with self improvement lectures and meditate religiously, but we still get old.

Unless as GBS, said we were once faced with the alternative.

In the beginning, the shared burst of energy as any of the three above mentioned gentleman appeared was astounding. Today, the lack of filters in their spontaneous speech, twitters along with accidental comments makes anyone over 65 cringe.

I doubt if there is a realistic, mature voter who doesn’t wish it weren’t so. Yet as I read the news items daily, I cannot deny the reality.

The glaring truth is regardless of their diverse legislative opinions, all three gentlemen are too old to be considered as our next President. No matter how much we, they or the country pretend or wish it weren’t so.

Of, course that also sounds a death knell for my own latent political ambitions.
