It’s Hard To Be

I suppose it must be hard, but I really don’t know.

I have never been the darling of the media, not even in my dreams.

Nor to be honest, have I ever wanted to be. That’s because I know what a perilous slippery slope it can become. Ever so quickly and without much warning.

And reading today’s headlines, I see it has happened once again.

The young highly attractive woman who quite unexpectedly became a Congresswoman finds herself exactly there at this moment.

Her surprise victory was overwhelmingly embraced with acclaim by one and all political commentators, gurus and women’s groups across the country.

She was perfect copy. And without effort she slid into the spotlight seemingly to enjoy the bright lights shining on her. She pranced and danced, and spoke without hesitation or too much thought. It didn’t matter. She was the winner, the hope for change, and besides, very, very good looking.

There weren’t too many questions about her qualifications. It was too late, she had won an election. But somewhere, someone should have whispered in her ear. Go slowly; you have time, there is a lot to learn.

However, no one did or perhaps dared. And as she pranced and danced, she did something else. She took a job opportunity away from people who had voted for her.

Then still enjoying the brightness of the spotlight shining in her lovely eyes, speaking loudly happily took credit for the loss of an estimated 25,000 to 40,000 potential jobs for NY residents. Many of whom may have contributed by their vote to her surprising victory.

Without too much time to recover her fleeting stability of adulation, she then moved into luxurious housing. Suddenly pictures of her new abode were splashed across national media featuring the awesome amenities of the home the erstwhile darling of NY now enjoys.

The amazing transition of her new lifestyle will not be forgotten by all those who have now lost their opportunity to earn just enough income for a decent albeit not luxurious abode.

Yes, adulation can be so fleeting, and I suppose it can be difficult to be a darling
