Legislator Joseph Belesi Attends Breast Cancer Screening
Legislator feels it's "all about the community."

Nassau County 14th District Legislator Joseph Belesi, R-Farmingdale, wasn't waiting around for the official results of the Nov. 8th election for him to give back to the community he loves. For him it’s still about serving the community and doing what’s best for his fellow residents.
“It’s all about the community and I’m here when they need me,” he said.
Belesi attended a Mobile Breast Imaging van event Thursday in the Carmans Plaza parking lot, said he believes that it’s important to stay active in the community and assist everyone in need with as much help as possible.

“A lot of people don’t have health insurance and breast cancer is a devastating disease,” Belesi said. “I try to help out the community as much as I can. I want [services] like this to serve the county and reach every adult and child that needs the help.” Belesi said to have this type of help and awareness to the community is especially personal to him because he lost an aunt to breast cancer.
“It really is a devastating disease,” he said. “I just hope this can help people and one day there will be a cure for breast cancer.”

The Mobile Breast Imaging Van is sponsored by Nassau University Medical Center and travels five days a week to various locations in Nassau County to provide women with mammograms, colon rectal examinations and cervical cancer screening. Women of all economic backgrounds are welcome and if a woman is uninsured, the services are free.
In addition to participating in the Mobile Breast Imaging center, Belesi also participates in several blood drives and child safety awareness events throughout the year.
Belesi defeated Democrat Eva Pearson by 51 votes on Nov. 8th to be re-elected to the 14th District seat, a position he has held since 2009.
