I have thought about Rapunzel quite often lately.
The latest CDC edict extended our residential lockdown for an additional four weeks. Trevor, my trusted hair stylist had returned to his salon, and hopefully, we made plans to reconnect later this week.
Now I have canceled our rendezvous and rescheduled with optimism for early August.

That returns me to Rapunzel. Unlike the heroine, I do not live in a tower; neither is my hair golden; nor was it ever. To be brutally honest, it has been described far differently throughout the years. The word lank comes to mind.
However, if lockdown continues much longer I may have a braid quite similar in length to the famed heroine of 18th century Germanic folklore.

There is another major difference, Rapunzel was twelve years old, and I, well let’s not get into specifics.
I do wonder about her diet. Undoubtedly, youngsters have healthy hair and bodies. Still the famed heroine’s vitamin intake must have been extraordinary in order to maintain such incredibly lustrous hair, Especially since she had been shut up in a tower for most of her life. I have only been in lockdown for five months and time has taken a distinct toll.
Once again, returning to me. No, my home is not in a tower. I do live on the second floor with several means of exit beyond a balcony. To the best of my knowledge, no one is waiting for me to let down my hair. And to be quite honest, I doubt if anyone ever has, did or will.
As I reread the classic Grimm's Brothers tales that always end happily, I thought the two renowned brothers certainly had great imaginations. Perhaps it was their optimism that always resulted in incredibly happy endings.
Not only did Rapunzel have hair strong as steel, but she survived life in a cave with twins born out of wedlock. Miraculously, when her blinded lover found her (quite by accident,) her joyful tears restored his sight. Amazing even in today’s world.
So who knows, maybe Corvid 19 will soon fade into yesterday’s memory. The country’s upcoming election will proceed with civility and lack of animosity. Possibly, the current riots will fade rapidly into the dark night of memories.
After all, if the Brothers Grimm can predict a happy ending, so shall I. It’s certainly worth a try.
