JCPenney Postpones Store Closures
The store in Massapequa, which was scheduled to close down in June, will remain open for a few more weeks.

Shoppers rejoice -- it appears the JCPenney store in Massapequa will be around for a little while longer.
Last month, the department store company announced that The Westfield Sunrise Mall JCPenney will be shutting down as part of the company's plan to shutter 138 of its stores nationwide over the next few months.
However, CNBC reported on Thursday that the store closures have been postponed after receiving an increase in sales and traffic following the announcement.

"This is not an uncommon response when you announce a store closure," JCPenney spokeswoman Daphne Avila told CNBC. "Local shoppers will come out for a variety of reasons — some out of nostalgia and some who are just looking for a great deal."
As a result, rather than beginning the process of liquidating the stores on April 17 the company will begin the process starting on May 22, pushing the store closures to July 31 instead of June as originally planned.
