Update: Labriola To Step Down

Oyster Bay Town Clerk Steve Labriola is resigning his post to join the Nassau County Comptroller's Office, officials said.

Labriola is expected to step down some time this week and is set to become the chief deputy to Nassau Comptroller George Maragos, according to a Jostyn Hernandez, a spokesman for the comptroller's office. 

He will serve as chief of staff for Maragos and is set to start the job on Friday. He takes over for Frank Moroney who is the new Head Counsel for the Nassau County Legislature.

"Steven Labriola brings extraordinary administrative, governmental and financial qualifications to the Office of the Nassau County Comptroller which will be instrumental in helping to further streamline government, cut costs and eliminate wasteful spending,”  Maragos said in a statement.

Labriola was elected town clerk in 2003 and is in his fifth term. Prior to that, the Republican served as a member of the State Assembly from 1997 through 2003.

He has also served as director of operations for the town and has been active in several civic organizations, including the Order of Sons of Italy in America, Knights of Columbus and the Knights of Pythias. 

As town clerk he modernized a number of the clerk's operations, including initiating credit card payments for certain fees while overseeing offices in Oyster Bay and Massapequa.
