Man Attempts To Break Into Two Massapequa Park Businesses: Police

The man injured his hand while attempting to break into a local business Tuesday, police say.

MASSAPEQUA PARK, NY — A Pennsylvania man was arrested after he was caught on video attempting to break into two Massapequa Park businesses on Tuesday, according to Nassau Police.

According to police, a 911 call came in reporting a broken window at Arlo Drug Store at 1022 Park Boulevard.

Upon arrival, officers were able to review surveillance video and saw a man break the back window with a metal bar at 3:40 a.m., but he was unable to enter the store, police said.

The video also showed the same man break a second window with his fist next door at Bacaro Italian Tavern at 1020 Park Boulevard, police said.

However, the man was unable enter the tavern.

At 1 p.m. on Tuesday, a 911 call reported a man with an injured hand in front of 125 Front St. in Massapequa Park.

After an investigation, officers found that the injured man, identified as 26-year-old Steven Fitzgibbon, was responsible for the attempted burglaries at the two businesses, police said.

Fitzgibbon was placed under arrest at Nassau University Medical Center at 3 p.m. without incident, police said.

He is being charged with two counts of third degree attempted burglary and two counts of third degree criminal mischief, police said.

He will be arraigned on Wednesday.
