Man Hit, Kicked Officer During DWI Arrest: Police

The 40-year-old was being arrested for traffic violations when he attempted to resist by flailing his arms and kicking, police say.

NORTH MASSAPEQUA, NY - A North Massapequa man was charged with hitting and kicking an officer while he was being arrested for driving drunk as well as several traffic violations on Wednesday, according to Nassau Police.

Michael R. Rahl, 40, was seen by officers violating several traffic laws while driving a gray 2005 Toyota pickup truck on East Service Road in North Massapequa at about 12 a.m., police said.

While the officers were arresting him, Rahl resisted arrest by flailing his arms to avoid being handcuffed and kicking his legs striking one of the officers in his hip and back requiring him to be transported to a local hospital for his injuries, police said.

The officer has been treated and released.

Rahl is charged with second degree assault, resisting arrest, DWI and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations, police said.
