Man Slashes, Bites Cops After Getting Kicked Out Of Nassau Bar: Police

Police had to use a taser on the 26-year-old after he attempted to stab an officer, cops say.

MASSAPEQUA, NY - A Massapequa man was arrested for assaulting two police officers in Massapequa on Saturday night, according to Nassau Police.

According to police, officers responded to McCann’s Bar and Grill on 5590 Merrick Road for a disturbance at about 9:50 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found out that a man who was denied entry into the bar because of his erratic behavior and who had also damaged a windshield wiper on a party bus parked across the street from the bar had left the scene.

After a canvass of the area, officers saw the man, identified as 26-year-old Robert Savage, walking on Clocks Boulevard and Ellen Street, police said.

When officers attempted to question him, Savage began struggling with the officer and sergeant, police said.

He then produced a pair of scissors and slashed the officers’ cheek and attempted to stab him in the neck, police said.

The sergeant was bitten and sustained injury to her back, neck and shoulder after being thrown to the ground, police said.

The officer then used his taser and was able to place Savage under arrest, police said.

The officer and sergeant were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. They were treated and released.

Savage was also transported to a local hospital where he was admitted for an unrelated illness.

He is being charged with aggravated assault upon a police officer, fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and 2 counts of second degree assault.

He will be arraigned as soon as medically practical.
