The Massapequa girls basketball team picked up a solid road win over the Hempstead Lady Tigers, 52-12 Friday. The Chiefs (12-2, 7-2) kept pace with first-place Farmingdale in Conference AA-I with their second road win in two days, after beating the Tigers (1-10, 1-8).
Every player scored for the Chiefs on the day with Sabrina Fregosi leading the way with seven points. Kaiylya Davis led Hempstead with four points of her own.
Hempstead fought tough on their home court in the first quarter, as the score was tied 6-6 with a minute remaining. Taylor Elliot put in four quick points to give Massapequa a 10-6 lead after the first. The Chiefs pushed their lead to 16-6 following two quick baskets in five seconds by Sam DeSandis and Danielle Doherty. Massapequa led comfortably at halftime, 22-8.

Massapequa cleaned up their errors on the offensive end to score on their first five possessions of the second half before Hempstead was able to get on the board. A 19-2 third quarter pushed the Chiefs lead to 41-10 after 24 minutes.
The Chiefs gave up just two points in each of the final three quarters, all the while scoring 42 points of their own to close out the big road win by 40 points, 52-12.

Heroes: Fregosi handled the point well when Doherty was not on the floor. Her tough defense also helped Massapequa force 22 turnovers in the game.
Turning Point: The first three minutes of the third quarter proved to be the difference maker as Massapequa seemed to pick up the defense and convert every opportunity they had on the offensive end.
Bottom Line: After a long break following the tough loss at home to Farmingdale, Massapequa was tested with back-to-back road games, but the girls handled both match up’s convincingly as they head full-steam to the Nassau County Playoffs.
Key Stat: Alhtough no players reached double-digits for Massapequa, it was the first time in which all 13 players on the roster contributed to the scoring column. The 40-point margin of victory was the Chiefs’ largest of the season thus far.
