Massapequa Park Man Charged With DWI After Crashing Motorcycle: Police

The 51-year-old suffered from multiple injuries after the crash on Sunday night.

A Massapequa Park man was arrested on a DWI charge after crashing his motorcycle on Ocean Parkway on Sunday night, according to State Police.

A state trooper was investigating a two-car property damage crash on the right shoulder of the westbound Ocean Parkway, east of Gilgo Beach.

A Babylon Town Bay Constable was helping the trooper with the crash, and parked his 2013 Ford F-150 pick-up truck behind the trooper's vehicle, on the right shoulder.

At 9 pm, a 2002 Suzuki motorcycle, driven by 51-year-old John Vlismas was traveling in the right lane of the westbound Ocean Parkway, and was approaching the accident scene, police said.

As Vlismas passed the Bay Constable's parked car he hit the driver's side view mirror causing him to lose control of the motorcycle and was ejected, police said.

He was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with multiple, non-life threatening injuries, police said. No other injuries were reported.

Further investigation revealed that Vlismas was intoxicated at the time of the crash and was arrested for DWI, police said.

In addition Vlismas was charged with third degree aggravated unlicensed operation and multiple traffic violations.
