The Public Citizen of the Year Award is awarded annually to an individual that demonstrates a strong commitment to the social work profession, as well as continues to improve the quality of life in the community.

The Public Citizen of the Year helps at-risk populations, acts with courage and demonstrates outstanding leadership.

“We are very fortunate to have Mrs. Campbell working at DSS and coordinating the Social Services Volunteer program,” DSS Commissioner Dr. John Imhof said.

According to Imhof, she has elevated and expanded the programs offered through volunteer services which benefit the neediest individuals and families in our communities.

The services Campbell organized includes the Dress-To-Impress program which helps veterans and unemployed individuals re-entering the workforce.

She also helped to coordinate a summer camp program for children, a backpack program for the start of the school year with community partners, a program that provides non-perishable food to individuals and families, and a holiday gift drive for children in foster care.

"Lynne’s energy is contagious which has encouraged many groups to participate in activities offered through volunteer services throughout the year,” Imhof said.

He also noted that Lynne Campbell is the second DSS Employee to be honored by NASW as Public Citizen of the Year.

DSS Management Analyst Thomas Brooks was similarly honored in 2006.
