Massapequa WD Wants To Purchase Service For East Massapequa

The local utility wants to purchase the service for its East Massapequa neighbors before the sale of NYAM to a Canadian company.

The Massapequa Water District is looking to purchase the East Massapequa operation of New York American Water before the utility is sold to a Canadian company, according to reports.

According to Newsday, the Massapequa Water District is trying to purchase the services for the roughly 5,800 customers of NYAW's East Massapequa customers.

It was announced in November that the Canadian company Liberty Utilities Co. was purchasing New York American Water for $608 million. It is not clear how the Massapequa Water District's proposal would affect that plan, if at all.
