Mother and Daughter Rob Elderly Woman, Flee in Stolen Van: Police

The stolen car was found in Commack by Suffolk Police.

Massapequa, NY — A mother and her daughter were arrested on Wednesday for robbing a 76-year-old woman in Massapequa after stealing a car last month, according to Nassau Police.

On June 19, Kimberly Decicco, 44, and her daughter Erika Obritis, 24, entered an unlocked 1997 Pontiac van parked at the Budget Inn on 400 Carmen Mill Road, located the keys in the car, and drove to Best Yet Market on 5601 Merrick Road, police said.

While in the parking lot, Decicco exited the car, approached the woman and grabbed her pocketbook from her shoulder, police said.

She gave the purse to Obritis who was sitting in the car at the time, and they fled in the car westbound on Merrick Road, police said.

On July 6, Seventh Squad detectives were notified by Suffolk County Police that the stolen car was found parked in a lot at 680 Commack Road in Commack.

A short time after their arrival, Decicco was seen trying to enter the car and was arrested, police said.

Obritis was then found at 690 Commack Road and placed under arrest as well, police said.

Both women are charged with second-degree robbery and fourth-degree grand larceny, police said.

They will be arraigned on Thursday.
