In Motion...
but where are you going?

Are you progressing or attainting a tangible objective?

As beings that are ever- preoccupied and constantly in flux, we can appear very purposeful and destination oriented, but this overdoing can also be a signal of distress.

Excessive busyness can be a manifestation of anxiety, overwhelm, or even a seemingly valid reason to procrastinate and avoid a more meaningful yet difficult endeavor.

Even more regrettable, sometimes we are only going through the motions, lacking any true attachment or mindfulness to the ever-spawning chore list with its invincible task load.

Perhaps these distractions are nothing more than a well-crafted facade to promote one's dedicated diligence in exchange for admiration and approval by relentlessly overcompensating and people pleasing.

The older generations referred to this underhandedness as a 'faker' while the youth of today unapologetically tag this behavior as a 'poser.'

Different names, same meaning, identical negative disingenuous undertone.

We are all culpable of going through the motions at one point or another, and possibly it had no real value or harm in the first place and was merely wasted energy.

At its worst, it allows recklessness, carelessness, and irreverence to seep into places where holiness dwells.

As a church congregation, we are taught to pray aloud, recite memorized creeds, genuflect on cue, and make the sign of the Cross while worshipping and praising the Lord.

Do these holy actions and proclamations signify and envelop your Soul with devotion, respect, and love for the Godhead?

Or are they simply a means to an end to appease the onlookers and avoid judgement?

Bystanders will not know what category we are aligned with, but each of us is aware of our intentions and motivations.

Pious communities seeking communion with God understand that reverence and commitment equal sacredness.

As the Lord's vessels, it is paramount to be open, attentive, and receptive to God's word and will, which translates to being focused on Him, always.

In the absence of Divine devotion and connection, we are lost sheep and remain engrossed in the endless mundanities of daily trivialities.

Since we are channels, and not the authority, it is our job to cooperate with God's stipulations so we can exemplify His Divine works to the world.

Whether we think of ourselves as moldable clay transformed into a beautiful receptacle or a blank canvas awaiting masterful brush strokes depicting a unique purposeful portrait, the Almighty is the artist.

Physical movement gets us from one place to another usually in a hurried pace, while prayer anchors and stills us allowing for far greater adventures and answers by listening for direction, observing subtle insights and messages, and fulfilling His will.

As works in progress, we require the holy input and guidance that only He knows and can bestow. Evaluate your intention. The only One we should be imitating is God.

~ "Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves," James 1:22. ~
