Nassau Man On Probation Had Illegal Guns: Police

Police say they found two handguns with over-capacity magazines in his house during a routine search.

A North Massapequa man was arrested on Friday after police say they found illegal guns in his home while performing a probation check.

According to police, officers and the Nassau County Probation Department conducted a night watch probation check at the home of Jerell Deleon, 18, on West Drive at 8:20 p.m. Friday.

While searching, police say they found a loaded handgun with an over-capacity magazine within reach of Deleon. He was placed under arrest without incident.

After his arrest, police say that a second handgun, which had been defaced and was also loaded with an over-capacity magazine, was found in the home.

Deleon is charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of criminal possession of a firearm, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (large-capacity magazine), two counts third degree criminal possession of a weapon (previous conviction) and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon (defaced firearm). He was arraigned on Saturday, Sept. 14 in First District Court in Hempstead.
