No. 63: Pay Homage To The Fallen

Massapequa is host to three 9-11 memorials.

With the events of of Sept. 11, 2001 still as fresh in American's minds as the day it happened, it helps to have a place to go to remember those who lost their lives on that infamous, tragic day.

Massapequa is host to three 9/11 memorials- one at , a second at , and a third at Tobay Beach. However, all three memorials each possess something that makes their pressence here all the more poignant- an actual piece of metal retrieved from Ground Zero itself.

The 9-/1 memorial at Massapequa High School is situated in front of the district office building overlooking Merrick Road, surrounded by flowers and the American flag.

The memoral in Burns Park also overlooks Merrick Road, plans are in motion to eventually include the piece of Ground Zero steel in a much larger, more elaborate monument occupying the same spot.

The third 9-11 memorial is located on the bay side of Tobay Beach, where its World Trade Center fragment is flanked by American flags and beautiful colored lighting at night.
