North Massapequa Man Convicted of Attacking Elderly Mother With Phone
Guilty of assault in New Year's Eve attack.

An North Massapequa man was found guilty Thursday of bashing his 84-year old mother in the back of her head with a cordless phone, Nassau County prosecutors said.
John Norton, 60, was convicted on weapon possession and attempted assault charges after three hours of deliberations.
Although the panel, rejected defense claims that Norton never hit his mother, he was acquitted of a Second degree assault charge, according to prosecutors.

Norton's mother threatened to call police on him in the Mohawk Drive home she shared with him.
He grabbed the phone out of her hand and hit her in the back of the head.

As the elderly woman lay on the floor bleeding, he kicked her causing large bruises.
Norton had been on probation for a felony aggravated drunk driving conviction at the time.
He faces up to seven years in prison when he's sentenced on September 12.
