
Publicity wise, it’s been a bad year.
But then, we’ve had several of those recently, and it’s really nothing new.
This one, though, well it certainly hasn’t been good.

The Nun and Katy Perry, that absolutely broke my heart remembering all the women I knew who dedicated their lives to serving God and Church. I certainly knew and loved a lot of nuns.
But since I never knew an Archbishop, well, I don’t have to tell you where my sympathies lie.

And the sex scandal in Campania, an area near Naples.......... well I could say it’s beyond belief, except it’s true.
And Pope Francis, well, I’m just a bit uncertain, but shake my faith, no, that won’t happen.
Because what I believe has nothing to do with money or land or people treating other people badly. I don’t think that’s something new in 2018.
Oh perhaps the Vatican talking just a bit too much about climate warming is a new issue. But no, dubious publicity isn’t a recent occurrence; just the availability of reading about it on the internet is. Or maybe feeling the freedom to politely disagree is something new for many of us.
People of all sizes, shapes and prominence have treated other people badly since the beginning of time, but that won’t change what I believe.
My faith was instilled from the first day I can remember. I don’t even remember when I first learned about God, my Creator and the role He chose for me to play in the world I inhabit. Some of those good nuns I knew taught me a lot about that.
I do know I am nothing without Him, and my purpose here goes back simply to loving Him and all of His creatures. I haven’t always succeeded and probably never will, but I won’t stop trying. And admittedly failing, but still trying.
Today Easter Lilies and chocolate bunnies appear everywhere I look, and since Lent is almost over, I will soon eat ice cream again.
The reality of life, however, is that certain hardships will continue throughout the upcoming and highly anticipated sunlit days of summer. For most of us, worries about those we love will continue, anxieties over health will persist, and the pain of loneliness won’t diminish.
Nor will our righteous indignation concerning new revelations about past, present and new liturgical scandals abate.
In a sense the lent of our lives will endure beyond the forty mandated days and nights.
Undeniably, sometimes we all must wonder occasionally if there wasn’t another way.
However, not for me. I can’t imagine a day without my God. He is the essence of my being. I arise each day with His strength to support me,.
Revelations about Naples, Katy Perry and Archbishop Jose Gomez won’t change that.
