Police ID Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Tow Truck on Sunrise Highway as 26-Year-Old Woman

The woman was trying to cross the highway when she was struck Thursday morning, police say.

MASSAPEQUA PARK, NY — A 26-year-old woman died after being hit by a tow truck in Massapequa Park on Thursday morning, according to Nassau Police.

The tow truck was traveling eastbound on Sunrise Highway when it struck 26-year-old Rebecca M. Tighe, of Seaford, who was crossing northbound at Park Boulevard at about 4:45 a.m.

Tighe was pronounced dead at the scene by a police department medic at 4:50 a.m.

All lanes of Sunrise Highway at Park Boulevard were closed from about 5 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

The tow truck driver remained at the scene, and the investigation is ongoing. No criminal charges have been filed.
