Pedestrian Struck on Merrick Road

Airlifted to hospital after accident.

A man suffered a head injury after he was hit by a car while trying to cross Merrick Road Saturday night, police said.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Merrick and Oakley Avenue at about 10:15 p.m.

A customer at nearby Katy Daily's restaurant, said the man was crossing from the north side of the street when he was hit by a car traveling west on Merrick.

"The driver was an older man. He seemed very upset," she said.

The victim's head struck the car's windshield. He was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center where his injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

He was conscious and alert, the witness said.  The driver remained at the scene and was not charged, cops said.
