Photo Tour: Massapequa Coastline

For Scenic views and water fun, there's much to do and see by the shore.

Many people believe, Massapequa is the jewel of Long Island's  south shore. Because of their close proximity to the shoreline, many residents feel a strong connection to the water.

The coastline opens up initially into South Oyster Bay. From there you can access the Great South Bay and then the Atlantic Ocean. Looking north, many have easy water access because of the numerous inlets that cut into the area.

Many homes have a docks with a boat, jet ski, kayak - something to allow residents to get enjoyment out of the location. Those lucky homeowners can see beautiful sunsets daily, just looking out of a window.

But residents who don't live on the water are not left out. There are numerous parks with views, docks and access to the coast. John J. Burns Park is a perfect example. In the rear of the park is a boat dock with a ramp.

Morning, noon and in the evening you will find individuals and families getting ready to launch a boat or just fishing off of the dock.

One evening, Thomas Franz and his son, Thomas Jr. could be seen using a net to catch bunker fish. You could see the fish agitating the water as they got ready to throw the net and gather their catch. These smaller fish are used as live bait when the Franz family fishes in South Oyster Bay. Other individuals that evening were fishing for snapper and even crabbing.

John J. Burns Park is a large park but there are numerous neighborhood parks and smaller parks which exist that have unbelievable views.

At the end of many streets near the coastline are parks which offer beauty and solitude. Colleran Park is a perfect example. It has a playground for kids, benches and panoramic views for everybody to enjoy. It's located at the end of Whitewood Drive in Massapequa Park.

For boating, swimming, fishing, sunbathing, reading or just taking beautiful pictures, Massapequa's Coastline offers something for everybody - young and old.  It doesn't matter the season or time of day, the coastline is always there to be enjoyed your way.
