Police: N. Massapequa Man Involved in Crash That Kills Pedestrian in Suffolk

Crash occurred late Wednesday night.

A man was fatally struck by a car as he attempted to cross Route 110 in Melville late Wednesday night, police said.

According to police, the man, who has not yet been identified, was crossing Route 110, south of Spagnoli Road, when he was hit by a southbound 2010 Acura MDX at 11:15 p.m.

The pedestrian was transported via Melville Fire Department ambulance to North Shore University Hospital at Plainview where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle, 28-year-old Joseph Zucchero, of North Massapequa, was not injured.

The Acura was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
