Public Library Puppet Palooza

Long running puppet act returns to Bar Harbour.

Children gathered at for a one of kind puppet experience Treasure Palooza by Petra Puppets.  

“It’s four puppets combined with magic and lots of audience participation,” said Steve Petra the creative force behind Petra Puppets.  

Petra created Petra Puppets 15 years ago and has been touring school and libraries all over Long Island. Petra has been to Bar Harbor Library 11 times since 2002. He has also visited Massapequa elementary schools such as and .

“Traditional puppetry is too passive for children and dialogue driven,” Petra said. “So I created something that was interactive with lots of visual elements.”   

Alice Walters, who has a 5-year-old daughter Olivia, frequents children’s library events.

“This was so much fun. There was lots of audience interaction and Olivia had a great time.”  

Steven Jacobs, who has a 4-year-old son Hank, appreciated the educational value.  

“My son Hank laughed really hard but he also learned a lot about money and treasure.”  

Petra Puppets will be back at Bar Harbour Library this summer for his brand new puppet show "Around the World."  

Connie Smith, the head children’s librarian at Bar Harbor Library, said she looks forward to Petra’s new creations. 

“I always tell the parents, don’t worry you will have just as much fun as your children will!”
