Rome, New York

And The Met

It will stop. As Flo Israel always said, “Nothing is forever.”

I doubt if I will be around to watch it happen, but that doesn’t matter.

Anything in excess reaches its inevitable conclusion. And the current age of shocking headlines, accusations and falling heroes will end at some pivotable point in the future.

There were two today. I don’t know which one was more disturbing.

Probably because it hits closer to home, I was most offended by the widespread coverage of the Met gala with its supposed “Catholic” theme.

It is difficult to find any relationship between the doctrines I revere and the parody of so-called V.I.P.’s dressed like clowns performing in a circus that are appearing all over the media today. What is the significance between these pictures and my religion? If it was intended to mock, sadly, I believe it succeeded.

I wonder whose supposed wisdom gave permission for this exhibit which undoubtedly will give many a momentary crisis in faith. I am grateful today not to have any impressionable young people in my life who might ask me to interpret the significance of a TV personality wearing a picture of the Nativity on her head

Then in equally glaring headlines we have another “MeToo” accusation. Only this time it is lodged against one of the leading law enforcement authorities in New York State. His resignation today is not only cause for lurid and sensational headlines, but casts a great deal of doubt on the integrity of the service he has rendered during his entire term of office.

Oh, it will end just like the Roman Empire eventually cleaned up its act.

But it’s quite sad, too. As a child I inhaled the news, digested both newspaper and radio programs. They were a vital part of my education.

Today, parents must have a lot of explaining to do after their family views the 6 o’clock news

I could use a few explanations myself.
