Long Island Weather Forecast: Snowfall Estimate Maps Released For Thursday's Winter Storm

The National Weather Service has updated its snow totals predictions for Thursday's storm.

Long Island is expected to see 4-6 inches of snow from Thursday's winter storm, but there's the potential for 8-9 inches of accumulation, according to the official snowfall estimate maps (see them below) from the National Weather Service.

The precipitation is expected to begin with rain Wednesday night before colder air causes the transition to the snow early Thursday morning, the NWS says. The snow will taper off in the afternoon.

Uncertainty with regard to the storm forecast remains high.

"The swath of accumulating snow is likely to be in a narrow southwest to northeast band with the challenge being exactly where that band sets up," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brian Wimer said.
